In public comment period, CRC CEO John Van Cleef pushed back against claims that the CRC attracts unhoused individuals, citing hard facts to debunk that myth.

The City’s political consultant briefed the council on a flood of pending state bills. The next step? Reset legislative priorities, with an emphasis on local control over state housing mandates.

Last year, the public weighed in on projects to improve mobility and safety around Housing Element sites. These six projects were re-assessed using the Infrastructure Task Force (ITF) rubric and then presented to the Council last night. While the Council accepted staff recommendations, they made it clear they reserve the right to override public-backed projects.

The Council considered potential projects to submit for the SANDAG Smart Growth Incentive Program (SGIP) Cycle 6, with staff proposing two projects based on design readiness and likelihood of grant award: (1) the Eastern phase of Santa Fe Drive Improvements and (2) Leucadia-Hygeia Roundabout. Despite Mayor Ehlers’ past commitment to support the Roundabout project (funds were diverted last year from that project to Leucadia drainage improvements) the Council instead gambled $20k per application on Trail 82 in Olivenhain and the La Costa Pedestrian Path in Northwest Leucadia.
