We have some news worth sharing: Encinitas Action is a 501(c)(4) (a nonprofit social welfare organization) and can now accept financial donations.
For the past year or so, we’ve been working to engage the community — newsletters, social media, meeting recaps, and showing up — with energy and the belief that local government matters. That won’t change. What’s changing is that we can now invest in more community building.
And our first invitation is a celebration to kick it off:
Juneteenth in Encinitas, featuring the West African Dance Company
Sunday, June 14 · 1:00–5:00 PM (final permit pending)
This June, we’re hosting a Juneteenth celebration right here in downtown Encinitas, with a live performance from the West African Dance Company. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when people in Galveston, Texas were informed of the end of slavery, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s a day of reflection, joy, and community, and it deserves a celebration in our city.
We want this event to be free and open to everyone (with food and drink available for a reasonable cost). That’s where you come in.

Juneteenth is our first event, but it won’t be our last. We’re planning a series of community gatherings and civic engagement activities over the coming year. Your donations are what make those ambitions possible.
About the ask
We know. It’s an election year, and it feels like every other email and text is someone asking for money.
