This June, we’re hosting a Juneteenth celebration right here in downtown Encinitas, with a live performance from the West African Dance Company. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when people in Galveston, Texas were informed of the end of slavery, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s a day of reflection, joy, and community, and it deserves a celebration in our city.
We want this event to be free and open to everyone (with food and drink available for a reasonable cost). That’s where you come in.

Juneteenth is our first event, but it won’t be our last. We’re planning a series of community gatherings and civic engagement activities over the coming year. Your donations are what make those ambitions possible.
